Twenty-five hours of painting, worked in the manner of an academic figure study. A crouching male figure draped in crimson cloth, seated on stone steps against a dark background, directly influenced by the French academic tradition of Cabanel and the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio. Limited palette of raw umber, ivory, crimson, and cool grey. This is a preparatory study for a larger definitive work.
